It was in November 2009 that the U.S. Congress officially recognized October as Filipino American History Month. Filipino Americans make up the largest group of Asians in the United States. In its 2010 report, the U.S.
Census Bureau found Filipinos the most rapidly growing ethnic group in the U.S. Of the over 14 million people who identified their ethnic heritage as Asian on the census that year, 25 percent designated their heritage as Filipino. During World War II, over 250,000 Filipinos pledged their allegiance to the U.S. flag. They then fought as soldiers in the U.S. army and served as guerilla fighters in the Philippines when that country suffered under Imperial Japanese occupancy. Source: IBTimes.com
